Fergal McCarthy’s work often centres on the Liffey, the river that flows through the middle of Dublin, Ireland. He creates performances, installations, sculptures and videos about his ongoing interest in the river. Other projects have included Take Me To the River, a 110km long journey along Ireland’s Grand Canal on a raft constructed from canal-borne materials to VISUAL, Carlow’s art museum, where the raft became the centre piece of an exhibition in 2016. Fergal has also written and illustrated books about Ireland’s 1916 Rising, the history of Dublin Port and the worrying rise of right-wing ideologies in Ireland for an exhibition at Dublin’s Goethe Institut.
